The College of Materials and Chemical Engineering is one of the first pilot colleges of the “Excellent Engineer Education and Cultivation Program” of the Ministry of Education. The college has 4 undergraduate majors, among which, materials science and engineering is the first-class construction major in the province, and composite materials and engineering is the first-class construction major in the university.

The college has a materials science and engineering laboratory center and a university chemistry laboratory center, four university-level key laboratories, including metal materials and welding engineering and composite materials engineering applications, and six research institutes, including the Sino-Belarusian Cooperation R&D Center for Magnetic Functional Materials and the Institute of Advanced Welding and Joining Technology. It has a national engineering practice education center and cooperates with Harbin Welding Training Center to train international welding engineers. Adhering to the concept of modern engineering education, the college is student-centered, output-oriented, and focuses on practical engineering ability to cultivate applied engineering and technical talents with all-round development in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetic and labor, who are physically and mentally healthy, and who have the innovative spirit, entrepreneurial ability and professional ethics.
