The College of Surveying and Mapping Engineering is the governing unit of China Society of Surveying and Mapping, the governing unit of China Geographic Information Industry Association, the governing unit of China Satellite Navigation and Positioning Association, the vice-chairman unit of Heilongjiang Society of Surveying and Mapping and Geographic Information, and the affiliated unit of the Education Working Committee of the Heilongjiang Provincial Society of Surveying and Mapping and Geographic Information.

The college takes the discipline of surveying and mapping science and technology as the key construction discipline of the province, has the authorization point of master’s degree of resources and environment (surveying and mapping engineering), has 3 undergraduate majors of surveying and mapping engineering, geographic information science and remote sensing science and technology, and has the “post-doctoral scientific research station” jointly constructed with the enterprise. The major of surveying and mapping engineering is a national first-class professional construction site, a national characteristic specialty, the first pilot specialty of the Ministry of Education’s “Excellence Plan”, a key specialty of the province, and has passed the professional accreditation of China Engineering Education (review). The geographic information science and remote sensing science and technology have become the first-class professional construction sites in the province. The major of geographic information science of the college develops a cooperative undergraduate student training program with Western Illinois University in America.

The college has a Department of Surveying and Mapping Engineering, a Department of Geographic Information Engineering, a Department of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and an Experimental Center for Surveying and Mapping Engineering, as well as the Twin Space Research Institute, the Institute of Remote Sensing and Monitoring Technology, and the Institute of Holographic Mapping and Engineering Measurement Technology. It has established a national experimental teaching demonstration center, a national off-campus engineering practice education base for college students, a provincial industrial technology research institute, a provincial science popularization education base, a provincial university key laboratory, a provincial university-enterprise engineering technology research and development center, and other experimental platforms and practice bases. Also, it has instrumentation and software systems such as measurement robots, airborne measurement equipment, vehicle-mounted mobile measurement, etc., and has relatively complete teaching conditions. The college has cooperated with more than 30 units to establish industry-teaching fusion bases, such as Heilongjiang Province Surveying and Mapping Geographic Information Bureau and Wuhan Survey and Research Institute of China Metallurgical Group Co., LTD.
